DARTMOOR will be the setting of a new Olympic style challenge in 2012 with Active Dartmoor Week.
For seven days, from March 31, the Dartmoor terrain will be host to a series of challenge events, kicking off the 2012 Olympic celebrations early with a range of activities and sports which showcase the wide variety of things to do and see in the spectacular landscape.
Starting at a special event at the National Trust's Castle Drogo, the week's activities include zip wires, mountain biking, raft races, pony treks and much more. Everyone can get involved in any of the activities by signing up.
The event is being organised by the official tourism organisation for Dartmoor, the Dartmoor Partnership, as part of its Active Dartmoor project. It is working alongside the Dartmoor National Park Authority, the Duchy of Cornwall and local businesses to provide the week-long programme, which is planned to become an annual event.
Jess Whistance from the Dartmoor Partnership said: 'In organising the Active Dartmoor project we wanted to provide an opportunity for those people who are inspired by the Olympics to come along and participate in activities that will test their own strengths and weaknesses.
'We hope that the event will continue each year and become part of the ethos behind the Olympic legacy, encouraging individuals to strive and really test their limits.'
