SOUTH Tawton shooter Georgina Geikie has her eye set on more medals after gaining a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, writes Michael Daddow. Georgina and Julia Lydall won a bronze for England in the women?s 10m air pistol pairs final at the Melbourne International Shooting Club on Sunday. Georgina, 21, and her partner kept their cool to hold off the challenge of Indian pair Harveen Srao and Sonia Rana to secure the bronze. The English pair scored 750 points, beaten only by host nation Australia (770) and 1998 Commonwealth Games hosts Malaysia (758). Georgina is a student at Cardiff University and a former pupil of Okehampton College. She is a member of Okehampton Smallbore Club who helped her develop an interest in the sport. Georgina?s father, Angus, said the drama of the final had been ?very exciting? and his daughter had been amazed at becoming a Commonwealth medallist. He said Georgina did not feel she had shot terribly well on the day and would be ?out for revenge? over those who had beaten her when it came to the individual event. Yvonne Rendall, of Okehampton Smallbore Club, said the result was wonderful and she had her ?fingers crossed? for more medal success. However, Georgina finished out of the medals on Tuesday in the individual .22 sport pistol event won by Australia?s Lalita Yauhleuskaya. Georgina will be hoping to be in contention again today (Thursday) in the individual 10m air pistol event, at which she recently became British women?s champion. The Melbourne games has been going well for the shooting team, and Georgina described morale in the camp as really good.
