SHOOTIST GEORGINA Geikie from South Zeal returned last week laden with medals from the Commonwealth Shooting Federation Champion-ships held in Delhi.

Great Britain's number one lady shootist Georgina flew the flag — literally — for West Devon in a shooting practise event for the England team at Commonwealth Games, which will be held at the same location in October.

The opening ceremony brought the first stumbling block for her team, as the Indians had failed to obtain a flag to represent each competing nation. So Georgina's flag of St George, which she bought in Okehampton was hoisted and flew for the duration on the championships!

Competing in both ladies pistol disciplines, 10m air pistol and 25m sport pistol, Georgina brought home four medals — a bronze and silver in the air and sport pistol pairs competitions respectfully, with her partner Julia Lydall. She also won two bronze medals in both disciplines Individual matches.

The two week period was an eye opening and informative time for the English team, who now feel prepared for the games themselves at the end of the year.

Georgina said: 'All the competitors were looked after brilliantly by the Indians. Security was high and we all felt very safe. Delhi and Devon, they may begin with the same letter, but that is about all they have in common!'

'These championships were designed to help the hosting nation ensure they have sufficient officials and are prepared to hold the Commonwealth Games.'
