NEW information has just been produced for tourism businesses within the Tamar Valley area and beyond, raising awareness of different types of cyclist that may visit their business and showing how best to cater for them.

 Chaz Curry, mountain bike development officer for the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, explained the need for this new booklet: 'More and more cycle tourists are being attracted to our region, and cyclists come in many forms.

'The booklet aims to identify the different types of cyclist and what they might need from your business. Knowing which groups you can cater for, and how, will help ensure visitors to your business have a good experience when they visit and recommend you to others.'

The eight-page booklet Making Your Business Cycle Friendly; Are you ready for the quiet revolution? helps businesses identify road cyclists, cross country mountain bikers, down hill mountain bikers, touring cyclists and leisure/family cyclists, and highlights what they may be looking for if they stop off en-route, or are looking for an overnight stay.

 Sally Wetherbee, from Sally's Holiday Cottages on the edge of Dartmoor, said: 'This booklet has helped our business realise that we already have certain facilities that can cater for passing cyclists.

'It can be daunting trying to understand the needs of different cyclists; this has given us the confidence to promote ourselves to a distinct cycling market and offer them what they require'.
