THE garden festival in Tavistock Pannier Market last Sunday saw the highest number of traders attending so far — 44 from all over the South West.
Within 15 minutes of opening, the venue was filled with visitors from near and far, including several from abroad — one German couple on a coach trip said they would be returning next year with their car.
Traders filled the main hall, and were also outside in the market perimeter and on Bedford Square.
Town mayor David Whitcomb presented all four nurseries who depicted a display garden, with a certificate of excellence. He then had a difficult decision in choosing his favourite display.
The event is run by Tavistock Town Council and is now in its sixth year. It is organised by two members of the office team, town clerk's assistant Debbie Ashton and office administrator Lesley Reeves, together with market management team Eddie and Duane Carruthers.
