A SMALL patch of land in Mary Tavy has this month celebrated 20 years of loving care by members of the village WI gropup.
The piece of land opposite the war memorial in Bal Lane was due to be dug up and replaced by chippings 20 years ago. But determined WI member Peggy Dunkley defied the council bulldozer and the green-fingered group members volunteered to take on the maintenance of the garden.
Mary Tavy WI member Jill Lamerton said: 'Somebody gave us 18 months — but we're still going, 20 years on!
'Sadly, Peggy died very recently and although she was never able to work on the garden herself, it will be a lasting memorial to her determination.'
