Hammy's XI v

Aaron's XI

THE annual Hammy versus Aaron game was played at Whitchurch Wayferers Cricket Club with the former going into bat first.

It started in dramatic fashion with opener Gliddon despatching Trembath around the park, however it was not long before he removed the ever dangerous Credicott.

In the next 20 overs the middle order collapse after some tight bowling from Cleave and Churchill removing Witcher, Kerswill and Woodrow for little cost.

Daymond at number three worked hard for his runs finishing on a fine 35 before the tail bolstered the score. Turner, Pairiso and Barriball putting on 80 runs between them to bring the score to 200 before another part timer Hall rapped up the innings taking 3 for 43.

The second innings saw Aarons XI chasing 201 to win off 40 overs. After a promising start from Hall senior Hammy's XI struck when skipper Kerswill ran out danger man Smith for 4. This brought in Chidzoy who demonstrated some text book drives for a well deserved 40 before he was removed by Kerswill, who finished on 2- 27.

With Hall junior and captain Aaron Churchill at the crease the game was shaping up to be an easy victory for the Aaron's XI until Meadows trapped Churchill, lbw for 10.

A quick burst from Cleave left a run rate of less than three an over needed for victory but he was removed by Witcher along with Bray and Coe, giving him figures of 3-21.

With Hall junior going well and reaching his 50 he was rapidly running out of partners as Woodrow started to clean up the tail. With 9 wickets down and 20 runs needed it wasn't long before Credicott plucked a fine catch on the boundary to remove Hall and seal a win by 10 runs for Hammy's XI.
