Carlsberg South Western League Tavistock 2 Callington 1 THIS local derby, containing players who had played for both clubs, never reached any heights of passion and emotion in games of the past with the Lambs appearing to still be recovering from last week?s visit to North Yorkshire. John Morris was absent due to a wedding but they welcomed back Glynn Hobbs and Will Stringer recovered from last week?s injury. It was the visitors who took a shock lead after just 10 minutes when Ian Rowe released Ashley Rowlands into the area for Nigel Pugh to come across him to send him tumbling leaving no one in doubt that it was a penalty for Richard Daley to slot home. A Shane Krac free kick for the home side went straight into the arms of Vinny Bowman before Callington almost got a second with Rowlands? cross leaving keeper Andy Meeds in no man?s land but Rowe failed to collect in front of goal. Mark Conday headed into Bowman?s arms with Rowe being denied by Meeds. From the resultant corner the Lambs broke for Conday to round the keeper but he was forced wide but got in the cross for Will Stringer to blast over. But the Lambs were level on 23 minutes after a little sustained pressure. Sean Cann made progress down the wing to send in a cross that John Hajiyianni took first time on the half volley to give Bowman little chance. Five minutes later the Lambs were ahead. Conday sent in a shot that Bowman did well to push away for a corner and from it the ball was only partially cleared to Chris Minhinick on the edge of the area to send back in low. It took a deflection off a defender and Bowman was unable to collect and there was Hajiyianni on the spot to stab home from close range for his second. The Lambs almost gifted their opponents a second just prior to half time with a defensive mix up when the ball was sent across the penalty area for Pete Floyd to latch on to it but he rushed his chance and it flew well over the bar. The second half was a close encounter with Callington trying to get the all important leveller and the Lambs attempting to put the game beyond the reach of the visitors and it could have gone either way. The Lambs went close in the early stages with Stringer shooting wide after Conday had set him up and Hajiyianni almost got on the end of a Krac cross for his hat trick. Bowman did well to come off his line when Conday broke clear to take the ball. But it was not all Tavistock and Meeds did well to come off his line to block a Rowe effort just after the hour. From a Callington corner Dave Hallet cleared off his line and the game then fizzled out despite the efforts of both sides to add to their scores with the Lambs coming out on top with the points in an uninspired game.
