WORK by several West and North Devon artists is part of a new exhibition running at the Salar Gallery, Hatherleigh, which tries to capture the essence of the countryside of the region.

The exhibition includes rural landscapes by Roz MacKnight, Chris Lovelock, Eileen Gould and Bernard Jones, animal paintings by Shan Miller and Leila Winslade, and photographs of hedges, fields and local flora, found within Dartmoor National Park, taken by John Curno.

Also featured are Julia Barton?s mixed media artworks ? which combine photography with painting in earth pigments ? as well as a scattering of poems from resident Hatherleigh poet Margaret Waddingham.

Sally Vick, from the Salar Gallery, said: ?Visiting art galleries can give people a time to see, think and reflect on things around them and this exhibition just asks for an appreciation and understanding of those features of our rural landscape ? both large and small- which together make our Devon countryside such a green and pleasant land full of diversity and surprises and one which we should never take for granted.?

She said she was always keen to hear visitors? views on what features of the beautiful area they most appreciate.

?We really would like to know your views ? and we have a posting box in the gallery ready to receive them,? she said. A copy of the latest volume of Margaret Waddingham?s poetry ?Moor Rhymes with Reason? will be given away to the person whose comments sheet is drawn out of the box first at the close of the exhibition.

There is still plenty of time to visit the gallery and share your views on the north and west of the county as the exhibition is running until Saturday, October 16.
