IN the Westcountry Nursery sheepdog trials at Middle Merripit, Postbridge, the winner of the Nursery Maltese Cross was Jed Watson with his dog Gale on 60 points.
Second was Jed Watson with Bill, 58; 3, Jed Watson with Craig, 54; 4, Jed Watson with Glen, 51; 5, Julie Tucker with Jem, 43; 6, Jim Nicholls, with Kim 42. Other results: Young handler, Matthew Carter, Blue, 41; nursery driving, 1, Rodderick Hayes, Sid, 71; 2, Mavis Backhouse, Polly,70; 3, Fiona Davies-Russell, Finn, 66; 4, Ian Bickle, Jack, 50.
At the trials at Ley Farm, Diptford the results were: Nursery Maltese Cross, 1, Simon Ashton, Fern, 44; 2, Ian Bickle, Paddy, 44; 3, Ian MacKay, Slip, 41; 4, Ian MacKay, Lyn, 39; 5, Tom Besent, Molly, 38; 6, Jim Nicholls, Kim, 36. Nursery driving, 1, Ian Bickle, Jack, 58; 2, Andrew Hendy, Ted, 54; 3, Andrew Hendy, Ben, 51; 4, Fiona Davies-Russell, Finn, 34.
The next Westcountry Nursery Trials will be held at Ian Bickle's at Chillaton Barton, Chillaton, on Sunday, November 23.
Further sheepdog trials followed on Sunday, December 7, at Victor Pitts at Exminster and on Sunday, December 21 at Kim Scott's at Great Champson Farm, Molland. All trials start at 9.30am.
