TAVISTOCK Town Council has missed yet another opportunity to leave behind old dogmas and move into the 21st century. There is an alternative way to resolving disputes than aggressive posturing and pre-emptive attacks. The use of weapons deliberately targetted at civilian populations is against the Geneva Convention and a war crime. The future of this world lies in co-operation and dialogue. The creation of the European Union, despite all its failings, has made war between its member states unthinkable. Even the creation of NATO has kept Greece and Turkey from any serious attack on each other. The youth of today seek wider co-operation, whether in trade, aid to developing countries or cultural exchanges, and our leaders should not fail them. Rupert Gude Church Hill Whitchurch
