WEST Devon Borough Council is hoping to allocate money from a community fund associated with the Tiddybrook development near Tavistock towards renovating Whitchurch Pre-school.

Members of the council's strategy and resources committee agreed to support the application for £12,500 from the Tiddybrook Section 106 Community Facilities Fund subject to an agreement from Tavistock Town Council.

Councillors were told that over a third of the children that enroll at the pre-school each year live in Tiddybrook.

The current building managed 20 children comfortably and an extension was not necessary, given there were other pre-schools in the area.

Funding for the pre-school was stable, however, such stability would depend on a fit-for-purpose building and the renovation project would ensure this for the medium-long term.

The total cost of the proposed renovation is £28,066, the pre-school has raised £1,000 towards the project, funds were being sought from Devon County Council's 'Invest in Devon' and a contribution had been confirmed from the councillors' locality budget.

The original contribution from the developer of Tiddybrook for community facilities of £420,000 has been spent on projects at Crowndale (£310,000), Tavistock College (£75,000) and Whitchurch Play Park (£7,500). There is also an outstanding commitment of £15,000 towards a new youth café for Tavistock.
