THE latest fundraiser by the Fairplace Church Wives and Friends' Group to bring Christmas cheer to deprived children takes place on Saturday, April 28.

Each year the group fills shoe boxes full of gifts and knick-knacks for Operation Christmas Child, a charity that sends presents to children living in deprived parts of Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

In 2011, a total of 375 boxes were filled by the group.

To ensure that they can keep sending as many boxes as possible to children in need, fundraising for the project continues with a lunch of quiche, salad and a sweet from noon in the school room of the church.

Lunch costs £5.50 per person with all proceeds going toward this year's appeal.

All are welcome.
