AN OKEHAMPTON group which has been supporting parents with young children in the town for 21 years has appealed for extra funding and new volunteers ahead of its annual meeting next month.

The Open Door Family Support Group and Toy Library runs regular workshops and drop-in sessions at Tenby House for families in the town.

Janice Goodwin, chair of the committee, said ?It is a constant battle for funding. It really is getting to crisis point.?

She said it was possible to find funding to set up a family support group from scratch, but it was much harder to secure funding to keep an existing service going, even one that had been running successfully for more than 20 years.

Almost 50 families from Okehampton and outlying areas regularly use the service ? many make use of the toy library which allows families to hire educational and recreational toys at low prices.

The group is holding its annual meeting on July 13, at 7.30pm at Tenby House, Okehampton, and would welcome new members.

Mrs Goodwin said the group was looking for new committee members with plenty of enthusiasm and ideally, skills in fundraising or making grant applications.
