LIFESAVING first aid training will be just one of many attractions at Morwellham Quay later this month as it hosts a charity family fun day.

St John Ambulance will be raising money in support of its vital work in Devon and Cornwall, with half of all admission fees to the site being donated to the charity. The fun day, on Saturday April 28 begins at 10.30am.

Andrew Pratt, fundraiser for St John Ambulance, said: 'The Morwellham Quay fun day should be a fantastic day out for all the family. It's a great time to visit Morwellham — whether it's your first time or if you've been before.'

Free expert displays of first aid techniques will offer important tips on the basic skills needed to save a life. There will be stalls to browse for St John Ambulance information and bric-a-brac.

The event also offers the chance to enjoy watching the charity's youngsters participating in a special Jubilee challenge. The activities include stretcher-bearing and a tug-of-war tournament.

Andrew added: 'As a charity St John Ambulance receives no Government funding, so events like these are vital to help us continue with the work we do to train young people in first aid and offer training courses.

'We raise funds to equip more people of all ages to learn the skills they need to be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. Research has shown that 150,000 people die each year in situations where first aid could have given them a chance to live.'

As well as the charity events, all Morwellham Quay's usual attractions will be open.
