FUN cycle rides entitled ?Pedalling picnics? wheel off from Okehampton and Lydford on Sunday to celebrate the National Cycle Network and encourage more people to get on their bikes.
The rides are being organised by Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity, and are along the Granite Way between Okehampton and Lydford.
Starting at 10am, the rides, supported by Devon County Council, will begin simultaneously, one from Okehampton Station and one from Lydford Gorge.
Riders can join the 23-mile long route at various points. This will allow cyclists to choose the distance they travel from 7.5miles to the complete route. This will be an easy ride travelling along mainly traffic-free, level, tarmaced surfaces through beautiful countryside. Stewards will travel at the front and rear.
Along the way several points of interest include Lydford Gorge and Castle, two impressive viaducts at Lake and Meldon, a quarry visitor centre, a railway and two stations.
Riders should bring their own refreshments or buy them at Okehampton or Meldon stations or Lydford Gorge. Cycles can be hired at Okehampton Cycles, Okehampton Station or the youth hostel.
Councillor David Morrish, who is responsible for environmental issues, said: ?The county council is building a network of superb cycle routes around Devon for people to have a great day out and discover these excellent routes.?
