AN INSTRUCTOR from Tamar Adventures has swapped tree surfing for trekking as she journeys across Iceland for charity.

Penny Knight is currently leading 17 other people in a charity trek across the lava fields of Iceland, raising money for Elise For Life which gives to the Christie Cancer Hospice in Manchester.

Having flown to Reykjavik, the group travelled overland to the first campsite, which has natural hot springs to relax in before the first day trek which involved walking for 12 hours over barren ash-covered terrain.

The trek will lead Penny and the group below the summit of the Eyjafjallakull volcano, wading across icy rivers.

Penny should return home in time for the busy summer season with both Canoe Tamar and at the Treesurfers' Ropes Courses.
