MEMBERS of Tavistock Athletic Club turned out in force for the most recent Grand Prix events, both off road; the Duckponds 7K over a multi-terrain course at Oreston, Plymouth, and the Haytor Heller over six miles of moorland between Haytor and Hound Tor.

There were 21 at the Duckponds led home by Richard Drage in 23 mins 47 secs, and in seventh position out of the 220 who took part. Richard is in excellent form at present having just broken the club?s four mile time trial time.

In tenth was Martin Exley in 24.08 and third home, in 49th place was Chris Eastaugh who was almost caught in a long sprint for the line by Allan Herdman, both being timed at 27.35.

Despite these performances, it was the ladies who collected the silverware, with Nicole Heryet, new member Hazel Walker and Anna Johnson winning the ladies? team prize, the first team prize to be won by the ladies for at least three years.

Thirteen turned out for the more strenuous Heller which involves steep drops and climbs and scrambling over rocky terrain, and the club won two awards.

Ann Sturtridge was the first home in her age group in 66.11, and Allan Herdman second in his in 53.09. Martin Exley was first home for the club in 45.27, followed by Chris Eastaugh in 51.57 who had a minute to spare on Allan on this occasion.

Men: 1 Chris Eastaugh 73; 2 Robert Dawe 67; 3 Roger Hewitt 65; 4 Mike Lewis 60; 5 Pete Bazley 48.
