ON Wednesday November 7 the Kelly College Concert Society in Tavistock will be welcoming the singer and recorder virtuoso, Julia Raeburn and the lutenist, Dawn Johnston who together make up the celebrated early music duo ?Muses Gardin?. Their intriguing name comes from the title of a book of songs by the 17th century English composer, Robert Jones: ?The Muses Gardin for Delights?. The delights they have in store are included in a programme they have called ?Upstairs and Downstairs or High Life and Low Life in Elizabethan England?. The concert will feature a complete range of music from the classic Elizabethan Lute Song to the broadside ballads of the time, which give fascinating insights into trade, occupations, and social life. There will also be solos for lute, Baroque Guitar and Citarrone (Theorbo) some with recorder, so it promises to be a truly fascinating evening. The concert takes place in the Melvin Hall of Kelly College with complimentary light refreshments in the newly opened Performing Arts Centre bar. Tickets are £9 (concessions £6, under 18s free) and will be available on the door or may be reserved by telephone (01822 813100).
