THE Ockment Centre is to relaunch its 'Friday Hub' sessions tomorrow (Friday) and celebrate its newly refurbished Dartmoor Room in the process.

The 'Friday Hub' aims to bring together a range of support and advice sessions each Friday morning to help people on a number of issues, from housing and employment to addiction or general advice. Among the services available at the hub are the Ockment Work Club, Sanctuary Supported Living, RISE Recovery Drug and Alcohol Service, Rethink Mental Illness and Advice West Devon.

Sanctuary Supported Living will hold a drop-in clinic for those in housing need. They will cover benefits, correspondence and signposting to services to prevent homelessness.

Rise Recovery works with anyone affected by drugs and alcohol, be it individuals, their partners or their family members.

Advice West Devon provides access to information or a referral to the CAB (Citizens' Advice Bureau). Whatever the problem, Advice West Devon aims to help.

The hub is to be held in the centre's Dartmoor Room — the room that used to house its computer suite. The room has been transformed into a flexible, bright space with comfortable seating and a modern kitchen space.

Jenny Hopkins, one of the team members running the centre, said: 'We have been incredibly hard at work to get the room finished and it is now looking great. It just gives us so much more flexibility with what we can do with the room.

'There will still be a space to use computers and do training but the old room was being used just twice a week.

'Now it can be used so much more and offer us a room that isn't just a hall or a big space. It could be used in the day or evenings for a whole range of functions.'

The team will be celebrating with an open morning and barbecue from 10am to 1pm. Everyone is welcome to drop in for a coffee and see what the hub is about.

The centre also celebrated the Dartmoor Room's renovation yesterday (Wednesday) with a performance from Get Changed Theatre Company of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Pictures of that event will be in next week's Times.
