A WHOLE day of free fun events for youngsters aged 5 to 16 and their families is being held at Okehampton Primary School on Saturday October 8, The event, organised by Okehampton FLAG (Family Learning Action Group), runs from 10.30am to 4pm. There are crèche facilities for the under fives. Thanks to funding from Okehampton & District Lions and the EX20 Lottery, all events are free, but places must be booked in advance, with Okehampton Primary School, Okehampton Community College, or Okehampton Library by tomorrow (Friday). There is a multitude of activities to try out, and most last around an hour, and will be run several times during the day. Devon?s folk arts development organisation Wren Music will be running four Making Music sessions, where people of all ages will be able to try out all sorts of acoustic and electric musical instruments. Wren Music will be supplying guitars, basses, drums, accordions, melodeons, fiddles, whistles and many more instruments - or participants can bring their own instruments along and join in. Okehampton Community Recreation Association (OCRA) will be running four Family Multi Sports sessions, including a range of team games such as football and basketball, and providing straightforward instruction. Clive Pig, one of the Westcountry?s leading storytellers will be running two sessions in the morning where he will share some of his top storytelling tips. He will also be telling his stories over lunch. There will be chances to try out Morris Dancing with Brian Cunningham, Circus Skills with Professor Fumble, making Fireshow Masks with Hilary Gillespie, Willow Craft Making with Forest Crafts, and Orienteering with OCRA. An inflatable assault course and badge making will also be available all day long, with no booking needed.
