OKEHAMPTON sports charity OCRA will soon be offering new hockey and football sessions. A men's six-a-side football league for the over 15s will be starting on Monday nights at the all-weather pitch at Okehampton College. Organisers say it will offer an ideal opportunity for groups of friends, colleagues, or pub teams to exercise together. Free hockey coaching is now on offer on Tuesdays, following a successful funding bid which the charity made to Cadbury's to develop the sport in this area. Free sessions will be on offer to boys and girls aged 9-11 years and of any ability. Hatherleigh will have a four-week course from 3.45pm to 4.45pm, while Okehampton will have a six-week course running from 4pm to 5pm. Coaching will be provided by West Devon Borough Council Sport Development and by players from the men's and women's clubs in Okehampton. Children should wear gum shields and shin pads but all other equipment will be provided. In collaboration with Devon FA Girls' Football Development, OCRA is also offering a five-week course in girls' football. Targeted at eight-to-11-year-olds of any ability, it will run from February 27 and will cost just £10. Places will be limited and children should wear shinpads. To book a place on the course, to register a team for the five-a-side men's football, or for more information about the hockey training call OCRA on 01837 54546.
