Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 2
Mary Tavy 4
Foxhole 2
MARY Tavy kicked off their first match of the season against an inspiring Foxhole team.
With the heavens smiling and the use of their recently refurbished changing facilities Tavy had a lot to prove in their first venture into division 2 football.
With ten minutes past they had a dream start with last season's top scorer Ben Stephens indicating he has no thoughts of relinquishing his crown. With the ball pinballing around the opponents' six-yard box it was screaming out to be poked over the line. But Foxhole had other ideas and responded with two goals on 25 and 32 minutes.
Matt Salisbury, a new face to the home side, equalled the score and with new found vigour Tavy regained their lead with a glorious header from another new face, Simon Pocknell, moments before the interval to give Tavy a deserved lead.
With the bit between their teeth Tavy were not going to slip up again and a solid second half performance was rewarded when Stephens added another to end any hopes of a comeback from the away side.
These were Tavy's first points from an opening game of the season for several years and welcomed by manager Lee Piper.
Mary Tavy Football Club expressed thanks to the Ordulph Arms in Tavistock for all their help and support.
