TAVISTOCK resident David Collins will attempt to climb four peaks in three days for the Alzheimer's Society.
David hopes to raise more than £800 by climbing four peaks in the Lake District — Skiddaw, Scarfell, Scarfell Pike and Helvellyn — from August 30 to September 1.
David said: 'I've decided to take on this challenge to hopefully raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer's Society and this often neglected but familiar disease.
'Having been affected by Alzheimer's in my own family and knowing of many others whose families have also been affected, it has given me the incentive to become motivated.
'I am hoping that by raising funds for the Alzheimer's Society that more support can be provided for carers as well as allowing the society to continue its search for a cure.'
David said he is training hard for the challenge and tries to get out whenever he can.
'It will be the first time I have ever done anything quite as long or challenging as this, so I'm really excited about it all.'
Jeremy Hughes, chief executive at the Alzheimer's Society, said: 'We are delighted that David is giving his time to support the Alzheimer's Society. One in three people over 65 will die with dementia. It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones.
'As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like David to help us continue our vital work. Please back David in his fundraising efforts so that the Alzheimer's Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.'
