IN perfect autumn conditions Okehampton Golf Club held their mens' four ball better ball open.
More than 150 competitors from all over the South West took part in this event. Overall winners from Yelverton Golf Club were M Moon and P Hendy with 43 points on the back nine from C Brimicombe and M Lees from Torquay Golf Club.
First visitors team went to C Channon and P Bradbury from Yelverton Golf Club with 41.
First home team were C Walsh and M Soby with 42. Best combination team from Okehampton and Downes Crediton Golf Clubs were J Flavin and M Curtis with 41. Okehampton member Rob Camies had his first 'hole in one' on the 14th.
The ladies of Okehampton Golf Club played the Daily Mail Foursomes. It seemed to be a low scoring close battle until the last pairing came in with a superb score. Marcia Jones and Gladys Thatcher easily won with a wonderful 38 points —not bad for a team who were made up at the last minute! Second place team was Jenni Hutchinson (ladies vice-captain) and Lin Atkinson with 29 and third were Maureen Willcocks and Cherry James with 28.
On Friday the ladies sent four teams to Tavistock to play in the DCV LGA autumn foursomes and Killard Leavey finals. Okehamptons' representatives were Jane Warren and Cherry James who were eighth overall with 32pts; with the same score were Doris Jewell and Maureen Willcocks were seventh.
