AN APPLICATION to convert the historic Bedford Foundry in Tavistock into three flats will go before West Devon Borough Council's planning committee on October 14.

The Times stated in the September 18 edition that the site had current planning permission for conversion but this was incorrect.

A building preservation notice has been served on the foundry by the borough council while the Department for Culture, Media and Sport considers whether it should become a listed building.

Planners decided to serve the notice following a visit by the county historic buildings advisor who felt the old foundry was worthy of listing due to its importance to the town.If listed status is approved, listed building consent will be required for any works to the building in addition to planning permission.
