IN response to the devastating foot and mouth outbreak in the county, Devon Community Foundation has established a dedicated fund to make grants to help those affected by the disease.
The fund was set up specifically to support Devon farmers, small businesses and community groups adversely affected by the FMD outbreak in the county. Through your pages I would like to remind readers that the foundation is still open to applications for financial support. Grants of between £50 and £500 are available and there are very few restrictions on eligibility.
Examples of grants made so far include support for parish halls, community centres and playgroups, grants to individual farmers for specific projects or to help in cases of hardship and contributions to small businesses such as a self employed computer technician specialising in farm related software, a green tourist guide and a taxidermist. Help has also been given towards the cost involved in setting up community events and to supporting a rural post office.
We would be delighted to hear from anyone wishing to know more about the fund. Readers are asked to contact us on 01884 235887 for details of how to apply.
