AN event specially designed to be of particular interest to businesses is being held at Okehampton Police Station next month.

The West Devon business ratepayers? consultative forum has been organised by West Devon Borough Council.

Borough treasurer Lesley Halton said she hoped as many business organisations in West Devon would attend as possible, as the event was aimed at being both informative and appealing, with a list of several distinguished speakers.

Geoff Harding represents the Bank of England in this area and will talk on the UK economy, prospects for growth and projections for inflation.

Tax planning tips will be provided by Francis Drake, a partner with national accountancy firm PriceWaterhouse Coopers.

In addition to a presentation by the treasurer and a county officer on council budgets, the borough?s head of best value, Dan Bates, will carry out an interactive exercise to find out how delegates think the council should be spending public money.

West Devon?s economic development manager Tim Beavon will talk about the November 2002 business survey results and report on the borough?s economic development plan.

And Pierre Morel, West Devon?s head of IT, will talk about developments in information and communications technology.

The forum on Wednesday February 12 starts with a light buffet at 6pm, with the business of the evening starting at 6.30pm.
