AN INTERPRETATION board was unvealed at the site of the Calstock Roman Fort on Saturday, detailing the work that has been undertaken with a grant of £35,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
A month-long exhibition about the discoveries on the site next to St Andrew's Church was held at the Tamar Valley Centre and storyteller Steve Manning brought Roman history to life for the children when he dressed as a Roman soldier.
The unexpected discovery of the fort in 2007 was followed by some major archaeological investigation work which involved members of the local community and various items of Roman pottery and evidence of buildings were found.
Hilary Bracegirdle of the Heritage Lottery Fund said Calstock had proved the historians, who believed the Romans never came to Cornwall, wrong.
The findings have been documented and archeologist Chris Smart from Exeter University, who led the dig, has written a booklet about the Calstock Roman Fort.
