SOUTH East Cornwall Liberal Democrat MP Colin Breed will be defending his Westminster seat on June 7 against candidates from the other two main parties and the UK Independence Party.
Mr Breed, a former mayor of Saltash, managed to reverse the Conservative's 7,700 majority in 1997 and goes into this campaign almost 6,500 votes ahead, roughly 8 per cent of the 80,000 strong electorate.
He beat right wing Conservative Warwick Lightfoot, who was hoping to take over Sir Robert Hicks' mantle.
Sir Robert was a very popular left of centre MP for the South East Cornwall constituency for 27 years.
The Conservatives will be doing their best to turn that back as they try to break the Liberal Democrat stronghold in the South West. Their man in East Cornwall is Ashley Gray.
The Labour Party candidate is William Stephens and Graham Palmer is running for the UKIP. The closing date for nominations is May 22.
l 1997 result: Mr Breed polled 27,044 votes against Mr Lightfoot's 20,564. Dorothy Kirk, Labour polled 7,358; James Wonnacott UKIP 1,428; Paul Dunbar, Mebyon Kernow, 573; Bill Weights, Liberal, 268 and; Margot Hartley, Natural Law Party, 197.
