Families with hungry active children are being supported by Horrabridge Food Hub during the summer and will be open every Wednesday throughout the school holidays.

Ali Mansfield, a Horrabridge Methodist Pioneer, supports the food hub which she stresses is not a food bank: ‘The Food Hub is not a food bank. It can be accessed by everyone to reduce food waste and bring food to communities.

She said: ‘Why is it when the holidays are here, our children’s appetite dramatically increases. Fear not, the food hub is here and Dartmoor Bakery’s Pay It Forward Scheme is also here to help.’

The food hub is brought to the village by Feeding Devon, which is supported by Devon and Cornwall Food Action and Horrabridge Love Your Neighbour.

Ali added: ‘Devon and Cornwall Food Action brings food from food industries that are near the use and sell by date, but still has good use, to the hub. Food hubs help to reduce food waste and share it our amongst the community at a low cost.

‘We welcome everyone from Horrabridge, Walkhampton and the surrounding areas area to use the food hub. Please bring a shopping bag to fill for a small cost of £5 or donate a smaller amount for less food.’

Local people also contribute to the food hub, including gardeners with their home grown produce.

The Food Hub is open every Wednesday 2-3pm at Horrabridge Youth Club. The Food Hub offers food as pre-packed food boxes which can be ordered through this link https://form.jotform.com/221212494735049 or by email: [email protected] or visit the Horrabridge Food Hub Facebook.
