FOOD and drink producers throughout West Devon are being invited to appear in a Local Food and Healthy Eating Guide for the district.

The new guide is being produced by WestDEN?s Good Food Project and will feature the wide range of products which are brewed, pickled, baked, reared and grown in West Devon.

The Good Food Project is working to promote local, healthy and organic food in West Devon by working with schools, farmers? markets, producers and local groups.

The directory will list local food and drink producers and give information on local markets, healthy eating, the benefits of buying local food, and suggestions for cooking good local food on a budget.

Good Food Project manager Kate Wright said: ?We are so fortunate here in West Devon to have such a wide selection of really excellent food and drink, from home-grown vegetables to traditional cheeses, farmhouse baking and farm reared meat.

?The aim of this new guide is to encourage more people to source, buy, and eat more local food with all the health, environmental and economic benefits that brings. Local food is good for us, good for the environment and good for the local economy.?

The Good Food Project is writing to producers on its database who may wish to appear in the directory. Listing is free. If there are any other producers within West Devon who would like to be included in the guide, which will be printed this autumn, contact Kate Wright on 01822 617399.

The Good Food Project is also offering support to local retailers who are interested in selling more local food. If any retailers are interested they should contact Kate Wright on the number above.
