A LARGE group of friends and colleagues past and present gathered in the Jubilee Garden at Tavistock Hospital recently, to say goodbye to the ward sister, Jane Franklin, and wish her a long and happy retirement. They presented her with flowers and an array of presents, mostly relating to her great love of walking on Dartmoor. There were also speeches and poems acknowledging her unique contribution to the hospital and patient care. Jane started her nurse training in 1963 in Oxford, and apart from a short break when her children were young, she spent her career of more than 30 years working for the NHS. The last 22 years were in Tavistock, where she worked her way up from part time staff nurse to ward sister.
