MANY people will no doubt be delighted the application for two wind turbines at Lamerton has been turned down.

Views from Dartmoor National Park, Tamar Valley and Brentor take precedence over the reduction in greenhouse gasses.

Cancer is not caused usually by a single factor. But pollution of the atmosphere, the food and water must have a contributory effect.

Cornwall has seven wind farms. Devon doesn?t have a single wind turbine. Offshore wind turbines may happen. but the government may force wind farms on Devon.

The two that were requested would reduce greenhouse gasses by 28,000 tonnes a year. Perhaps not sufficient to purify Tavistock?s polluted air but at least it would make a contribution and anything is better than nothing.

My bicycle is used on fine days and I will walk when possible on other days. True, one car off the road is miniscule but as my mother in the 30s used to say ? ?every little bit helps!?.

Noise was mentioned yet the first wind farm in the country was at Delabole. Protests were many but Cornwall, sensibly, agreed with it. Houses around were 350 metres away. When the turbines were established not one person protested about noise. Modern ones are even quieter.

To listen to the protests one would imagine that at every step on these beauty spots one would have the turbines under ones nose.

What a shame Devon hasn?t the sense to follow Cornwall?s example.
