LIFTON Community Primary School's recent annual activities week was along the theme of 'Health and Safety'. A variety of expert visitors led activities covering cycling, road safety, internet safety, healthy lifestyles and first aid. Children also designed a 'park smart' banner which will be put up in the school grounds. Not content with just cycling, pupils also looked at recycling and spent a day trying their hands at 'reducing, re-using and recycling'. Pupils brought their cycles into school for a 'bike safety check' and were treated to a stunningly skilful display of stunt cycling by Andrei Burton, a world elite cycle trials rider. The children were enthralled as he performed 360 degree turns in mid-air, leapt over barriers and jumped his special bike between platforms. The week ended with an open day when parents came in to watch and help with lots of different activities, including team-building, a junk band, cooking and smoothie-making, creating a sculpture from recycled materials, a wheeled assault course and line-dancing. The day ended with a barbecue and treasure hunt organised by the Friends of Lifton School.
