DEVON'S Most Remarkable Churches is the theme of an evening lecture at the Devon Rural Archive, focussing on the best local churches to visit to encounter some extraordinary works of art.
The illustrated talk will be given by Dr Todd Gray on Thursday, December 6 at 7pm. Much of his evidence will be sourced from his book 'Devon's Fifty Best Churches', published last year, which reveals which of Devon's numerous churches houses the most outstanding objects of beauty made from stone, wood, glass and metal, often by local craftsmen.
Abi Gray, consultant archaeologist at the Devon Rural Archive, said: 'Todd has travelled more than 8,000 miles through the lanes of Devon to explore and select the most outstanding churches in the county.
'His comprehensive research and his in-depth knowledge of Devon's history will make this an intriguing lecture for anyone with an interest in art, history or religious artefacts.'
The talk will take place at the lecture room at the Devon Rural Archive at Shilstone, near Modbury.
Tickets are £5 and include refreshments which will be available from 6.30pm. To book tickets contact Abi on 01548 830832 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
