OKEHAMPTON College is planning a green new year as it continues to highlight the effects of global warming on the environment.
The college will be holding an energy efficiency evening on Wednesday January 14 from 6pm until 8pm focussing on energy in the home. The evening will cover such subjects as solar panels, small wind turbines, biomass and heat pumps in the domestic setting.
The college has installed a first phase 10 kW photovoltaic system on the roof of its sports hall, thanks to grants from EDF Energy and Dartmoor Sustainable Development Fund, which comes complete with an internet-based dashboard, displaying the production and usage of electricity.
West Country Energy Action will be running a session on energy efficiency measures in the home and in another part of the programme, there will be a session run by one of the country's leading climate scientists from the Hadley Institute focusing on global warming.
