Launceston U14s 10 Okehampton U14 17 OKEHAMPTON had a flying start from the kick-off. The forwards took the ball, drove on, sucked in the Launceston defence, then spun the ball wide for Carl Poynton to go outside his man and score in the corner. Poynton added the 2 points with a superb conversion. Launceston hit back near the end of the first half with a try. Half-time score 5-7. Launceston kicked off for the second half, scrum-half Richard Friend caught the ball and ran to the open side, passed to Tom Browne, on to Rory Honeychurch, then to Poynton, who took the ball into Launceston?s half. The forwards supported well with Mike Aylen and Stuart Rennie securing the ball. Rob Long drove on, Luke Crocker, Scott Simpson, Tom McGrattan, Tom Richards and Sam Bullingham all moved the maul on, releasing it just outside the 22 to Friend. The ball was then passed quickly to Browne, Honeychurch, Poynton to Alex Vincent, who drew in his opposite man and popped the ball to Poynton, who had looped round for him to spring into the corner ? a real text-book try. Launceston again hit back with another try, but Okehampton had the last say when good forward play took the ball close to the try line and Launceston conceded a penalty. A good call by Honeychurch led to Browne quickly taking the penalty with a long pass to Honeychurch who also spun a long pass to put Poynton in the clear to score for an excellent win.
