A NEW flute choir in Okehampton will hold its first performance this weekend.
Flutastic! is a new choir aiming to bring together adult flautists from across the area for enjoyable ensemble playing, lively rehearsals and performance opportunities.
The group was set up in September by Kym Burton, the South West representative of the British Flute Society and co-ordinator of the South West Flute Festival, and Mel Orriss, a teacher, flautist and co-director of Wonderful Winds Publishing.
The choir has around 12 members already and is giving its first performance at the Clarinet Caboodle concert at Fairplace Church on Saturday, November 17 from 7.30pm.
The group uses the full family of flutes, from piccolo through to bass flute. Their repertoire ranges from classical pieces to lighter numbers.
The choir is always open to new members aged over 16, and roughly grade five or above on the flute.
The group rehearses fortnightly on a Wednesday in the hall at Fairplace Church from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
Tea and cake is always served, and membership costs £20 per term.
Their remaining 2012 dates are November 21, December 5 and December 19. If you would like to find out more, e-mail Mel Orriss at please [email protected]">[email protected] or Kym Burton on [email protected]">[email protected]
Alternatively, you can find out more about Flutastic! on their Facebook page or by turning up for one of the rehearsals.
