TAVISTOCK College principal John Simes said he is 'delighted' with this year's GCSE results, the best results ever at the school.
One student, Sarah Benzie, achieved a remarkable result with no fewer than 10 A Stars. Not far behind came Gavin Leithall and Lyndsay Smallcombe with 6 A Stars and 4As each. Stephanie Bentham Green and Andrew Smith secured 5 A Stars and 5 As to their credit.
There were many other students, too numerous to mention, who scored high numbers of GCSE grade As, said Mr Simes.
He said: 'I am delighted with this year's GCSE results. 54.3per cent of our students achieved 5 or more grades A*-C — well above the county and national averages.
'GCSE results have continued to climb year on year and this year's excellent achievements are simply national recognition of our talented, conscientious students and their equally hard working and excellent teachers.'
Overall boys were still behind girls, as they are nationally.
Mr Simes said: 'Although we have been able to move the boys forward, there is still room for further improvement and we will be looking hard at ways of enhancing boys' achievement across the curriculum.'
l And the class of 2001 at St Joseph's School in Launceston is celebrating success after a 100 per cent pass rate in GCSE exams.
Of the perfect pass rate, 83 per cent achieved a minimum of five passes at grades A* to C and just under half the group gained ten or more passes at grades A* to C.
New headmaster, Alan Doe, said the results were 'tremendous'.
'These results speak volumes for the dedication and hard work of both the pupils and staff,' he said.
