A SPECIAL event to welcome children into the world of fantastic flowers is all set to be held in Okehampton. Sampford Courtenay Flower Club will be holding free flower arrangement workshops, designed especially for children, on Monday, July 28 from 2pm to 4pm in Okehampton church rooms and on Thursday, July 31 from 2pm to 4pm in Sampford Courtenay school rooms. The flower club have recently secured funding from the EX20 Lottery and will be using the money to put on the workshops. All ages are welcome but children must be accompanied by an adult. The move follows a directive from the National Flower Arranging Society which is aimed at encouraging clubs to provide workshops for children as they will be the next generation of flower arrangers. The flower club are also holding a summer open meeting on Monday, July 14 from 7pm in Sampford Courtenay Village Hall. The evening will see national area demonstrator, Sue Kehoe, presenting 'Burnished Beauty.' Tickets for this cost £5, including strawberries and a glass of sparkling wine, and will be available on the door. Anyone who wishes to book their child a place on the free flower arranging workshops should contact Jill on 01837 52035. The flower club is always keen for new members to join. They meet on the second Monday of every month in Sampford Courtenay school rooms.
