THOUSANDS of pounds is being invested by Devon County Council in 'quick-win' schemes to help address flooding issues in a number of West Devon communities.

Several small schemes have been identified by Devon County Council to help communities which bore the brunt of last year's floods.

Homes at Buckland Lane in Buckland Monachorum will benefit from a £2,500 investment in new gullies and a drainage pipe.

Devon County councillor and leader of West Devon Borough Council, Cllr Philip Sanders, said: 'I am delighted that the combined efforts of the borough council's drainage engineer and Devon County Council's local highways officer has resulted in the rapid allocation of funding to address this problem, which was a significant threat to a number of homes.'

Following flooding in November 2012, the borough council is waiting to hear if properties in Milton Combe will receive funding through the Flood Resilience Community Pathfinder scheme.

An announcement is expected by the end of March.

The 'quick win' measures are a direct result of feedback from flood surgeries and drop-in events held across the county.

They are also based on the findings of the Flood Investigation Report into the summer floods, produced by Devon County Council in partnership with the Environment Agency, West Devon Borough Council and South West Water.
