HEAD girl at Tavistock College Flo Rodgers was recently crowned winner of the Tavistock Lions Club Young Ambassador of the Year award.
Eighteen-year-old Flo received her prize from club president Pat Macauley.
The Lions Ambassador Award was first organised in 1974 and acknowledges the work of young people working as volunteers and gives them the recognition they deserve, boosting their confidence and highlighting the charities and volunteer groups with which they are involved.
There are different levels — club, district, UK final and the European Final.
Tavistock Lions youth officer Alan Wroath said: 'Flo is a very worthy winner; She deserves the award not just because she spends a lot of her time working voluntarily, but also because she is a superb role model for the young people with whom she works and she also shows outstanding leadership qualities.
'She gave a superb performance in the district final of the competition, which she won, but unfortunately subsequently had to withdraw because of the pressures of her A-Levels — she hopes to read medicine.
'This competition shows what wonderful things young people do, which otherwise might go unnoticed and Flo is a really exceptional young lady.'
