FIVE people were taken to hospital, one with life threatening injuries, in the early hours of Saturday morning, after the minibus they were in collided with a 44-tonne heavy goods vehicle on the A30 near South Tawton. The incident took place at around 5.40am. Police, ambulance staff and firefighters from Chagford and two crews from Exeter attended. Five people from the minibus were taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. Police believe that during the collision the minibus was pushed into the nearside hard shoulder and flipped over, landing on its wheels. The driver of the minibus was thrown clear of the vehicle whilst it rolled. He sustained serious injuries, which were not considered life threatening. The passenger with life threatening injuries is currently in Derriford Hospital. The 44-year old driver of the lorry was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, and released on police bail until 2pm on July 3, 2008.
