Tavistock 1 Ashmoor 2 TAVISTOCK played home to a young and skilful side, who although lying in mid table were a team that could play quality hockey. The home side started by letting the oppossition come at them and simply absorbed all the pressure. This led to an Ashmoor short corner within the first minute of the game from which Kelly pulled off a superb diving save. More of the same was to come from Ashmoor who continued to run Tavistock ragged in midfield. The visitors with their skilful front two were creating further short corners, which they soon made the most of with a brilliant strike from the top D that gave Kelly no chance of saving. Towards the end of the first half Tavistock played some better hockey and earned themselves a short corner from which they should have scored. The second half saw much of the same from Tavistock who were not seeming to click and Ashmoor piled further pressure onto the Tavistock defence. However during the last 15 minutes Tavistock started to played some decent hockey. The midfield of Honey and McDougal were now winning more ball and gave a chance to the Tavistock strikers of Vinson and Hodges. This led to further pressure on the Ashmoor defence and numerous short corners. A well deserved goal came for Tavistock, who skilfully played the ball round the Ashmoor defence to give the home side a goal and some self satisfaction out of the game. Man of the match: Dale Wood. Next week Tavistock play away to top of the league Hornets. East Devon 1 Tavistock 2 LAST week Tavistock men's hockey team took the long journey to Lympstone where they faced an aggressive and skilful East Devon side, who were second from bottom in the table. Tavistock started the slower out of the two teams and were letting the opposition play fast and precise hockey that Tavistock were unable to cope with. East Devon created many chances from short corners but were unable to make the most of them and Tavistock defended well. Finally Tavistock started to play some better hockey and were working the ball up to the strikers, Vinson and Felix. The home side gained a short corner close to the end of the half but could not put the ball away. The second half saw a change in the Tavistock side and with renewed spirit playing some stylish hockey with the midfield starting to dominate more and creating some well deserved short corners. This soon led to Tavistock's breakthrough where an inside pass from Vinson set up Lethbridge to rocket his second goal of the season and put Tavistock in front of the game. A second soon followed after quick thinking from Honey who made a sublime pass up the field to an unmarked Felix, who slotted in a superb reverse stick shot from a wide angle. Tavistock eased the pressure to allow East Devon to run back at them. A goal soon came from the home team to give them a glimmer of hope in the game. Further pressure was piled onto the visitors' defence right until the final whistle but they hung on. Man of the match: Kevin Lethbridge.
