DARTMOOR Railway will be running a special service on Saturday to mark the opening of its newest station at Sampford Courtenay. This weekend also sees the opening of a new visitor centre at Meldon Station.

The Dartmoor Pony has a special offer for Sampford Courtenay residents on the first train leaving the station for Meldon at 12.05hrs. The return ticket, costing £1 for all ages, is for residents of Sampford Courtenay parish only.

A summer Sunday service to Exeter starts on May 23. The service will be run by Wessex Trains and enables shoppers and tourists to make the most of the Sunday Rover Service.

Ring Okehampton Station on 01837 55637 for more information on the Sunday Rover.

The exhibition and visitor centre at Meldon, which will be officially opened tomorrow (Friday), offers a chance to explore the history of railways and extractive industries on Dartmoor.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy panoramic views of the moor from the new outdoor eating area.
