THE first stage of saving a much-loved community building for future generations is complete.

Kingdon House in Tavistock needed urgent building work to save the building and make it ‘watertight’ — at a cost of more than £125,000.

Thanks to the local public, organisations such as Tavistock Townscape Heritage Initiative, the Dartmoor Greater LEAF and the local Co-op Fund, the sum was raised and work quickly began.

Scaffolding had surrounded the building since November 5 but last week it was taken down and the fresh new exterior was unveiled.

Manager of Kingdon House Karen Woodward said: ‘The front has all been repointed and made weather tight, amongst other necessary works.

‘We have had lots of people comment on how lovely it looks.

‘Now the next stage is to regenerate the ground floor.’

Fundraising still continues to revitalise the internal space.

On April 6, the Acoustic Café is raising money for this cause.

The event will be held in the Parish Rooms at 7pm. Hot food will be available.
