Tavistock Men?s 1st XI 9

Bodmin 0

AFTER the disappointment of the previous week?s result and in full knowledge that the league title was settled, Tavistock men?s hockey team went into this game knowing a win would secure a place in the promotion play-offs.

Captain Lethbridge had a full squad to provide the winning formula, with the game providing some of the best hockey seen this year.

Edwards? return from injury started the goal feast with a well-placed short corner strike.

Dominance seemed the order of the day with midfield Barratt and Way keeping control and showing sublime stick skills.

Bellard stepped in for Edwards and played a supportive and timely defensive role with a strong tackling and even distribution.

By half time, goal hungry Andrews had added to his total and Way was on the scoresheet.

Defensively, Costello and Holden kept a sprightly Bodmin forward line at bay, leaving guest keeper Bradley with little to do.

Following the break Boot-Handford covered vast swathes of the pitch and created opportunities which saw David Heard, at centre forward, start on his way to a deserved hat-trick.

A touching moment during a rampant 15 minutes saw Honey Snr provide for Honey Jnr to score. Continual pressure and cool finishing from disguised passes saw Way to his hat-trick to bring the scoreline to an impressive end.

Bodmin were competitive to the end, turning defender Cowan almost inside out at one stage.

This was an impressive performance by the whole team made pleasurable by effective umpiring from Aleck Venning and Graham Smith.
