TWO Okehampton church ministers will be returning to Kenya in August to see vital aid projects helping improve the situation of those living in poverty. Mike Davies and Chris Bourne, who are both Church of the Nations ministers based at Okehampton?s Inspiration Church, will travel to Nairobi as guests of Bishop Isaiah Challo. Both ministers were speakers at last year?s East Africa Dominion Convention and have been invited back to speak at the same event this year. It is being held in the Umoja district in Eastlands Nairobi next month. Mr Davies said: ?It was a privilege to speak at last year?s convention and I think we were a little surprised that attendance at their church meetings is similar to what we would expect at a football match.? The two men from Okehampton will be the only white speakers at the convention, with representation also being made from the Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. As well as being convention speakers they look at the work accomplished through the Kingdom Life Restoration Project. The project?s important work was recently highlighted when Bishop Challo visited the South West. His itinerary included a meeting with mayor of Okehampton Cllr Tony Leech. Mr Davies said: ?We have a busy trip and a lot to fit in. This year?s trip will be different in that we will be covering a lot more churches. ?However, I would like to try and organise a trip to the Kithyoko district , 140 kilometres from Nairobi, where the schools are now up and running, and where it is hoped to start the water project.? The aim of the Kingdom Life project is to ensure every school and health centre is served with a clean water supply. Mr Davies said much had already been achieved: ?They have established schools and a children?s home; they are now working on health centres and water supply. ?Although it is hard for us to witness the poverty I am pleased to see that the plight of so many people in Africa has been highlighted with recent world events.? He said he wished he could explain to many people who travel to Kenya on holiday that the safari parks and holiday destinations they see are not a picture of the true Kenya. He said people were literally dying every day due to needs that could be met. Inspiration Church is desperate to hear from anyone who can offer support to the Kingdom Life Project, as it works to help address the water crisis, the need for schools, the requirement of additional children?s homes ? due to the increase of AIDS ? and for the establishment of resource centres. A free DVD of the work of the Kingdom Life Restoration Project is available from Mr Davies, who is intending to revisit Kenya in September.
