Duchy Premier Southgate 1 Gunnislake 3 GUNNISLAKE made a poor start. Southgate centre forward Chris Prettejohn was put through and although Gunnislake keeper Andy Brenton did well to save his initial effort the same player was able to follow up and score. On 10 minutes the home side were awarded a penalty but Brenton saved excellently. Belatedly the visitors got their game going and equalised on 20 minutes. Mark Southcott?s long throw in found Andy Wakem in the penalty area and he turned his marker and slotted home. The visitors were then awarded a penalty but like their hosts failed to convert when Wakem struck his effort over the cross bar. In a well contested second half the visitors scored twice to deservedly claim victory, Ian Gray?s excellent through ball sent Jarryd Kelly clear to finish clinically on 70 minutes. With minutes remaining Gunnislake nearly secured the win when a Steff Kelly headed through-ball found Darren Sambells whose well taken volley beat the keeper but agonisingly went narrowly past the wrong side of the post. Sambells was not to be denied though, and after good determination by Kelly saw the ball break for Sambells, the young striker grabbed his first goal for Gunnislake. Cornwall Junior cup third round action awaits Gunnislake on Saturday at Lanivet, kick-off 2pm.
